Lazimpat, Radisson Hotel Road, Kathmandu
A Shivapuri Hiking Tour offers a fantastic opportunity to explore nature, enjoy peaceful surroundings, and discover the diverse flora and fauna of Nepal, all while experiencing stunning panoramic views. Shivapuri National Park, located just outside Kathmandu, is a great destination for hiking enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those seeking a break from city life.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Kathmandu by your guide and driver. The drive to the Shivapuri National Park entrance (near Budhanilkantha) takes approximately 30–45 minutes.
The hike typically begins from the Budhanilkantha area, where the Shivapuri National Park entrance is located. This entrance is close to the famous Budhanilkantha Temple, a significant Hindu site with the reclining statue of Vishnu. The hike starts on a gradual climb through the forested area of the park. You’ll pass through a mix of trails that take you through lush forests, clear streams, and peaceful surroundings.
The Park is known for its rich biodiversity, including a variety of plants, birds, and wildlife. You may spot monkeys, different species of birds, and colorful butterflies along the way.
After a steady climb, you will reach the top of Shivapuri Hill, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and the majestic Himalayas (Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu ranges). This is a great spot for a well-deserved rest and photos.
At the top, you’ll find a small Shivapuri Baba Ashram, which is a place of spiritual significance for local devotees. The Ashram is dedicated to the memory of Shivapuri Baba, a revered spiritual figure.
Take a break at the summit to enjoy the views, eat a packed snack, and relax before starting your descent.
After spending some time at the summit, start your descent back down the trail, retracing your steps through the lush forest. The descent typically takes 2 to 3 hours. Depending on your timing, you can either have a packed lunch at the top or enjoy lunch at a small local restaurant or teashop along the way (usually on the way back down).
After completing the hike and reaching the base of the park, your driver will take you back to Kathmandu, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
